Antony Price, the visionary style architect behind some of the most iconic looks associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his defined forms and performative fashion, most notably the pastel suits that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."

His passing follows just weeks after he unveiled his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he started his work in clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in shaping sculptural silhouettes made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he commenced designing outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as various looks for her American tour after becoming Duchess.

Following a profession lasting half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Dramatic Impact: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

Design circles says farewell to a authentic original whose legacy on style and culture remains deeply ingrained.
