The Welsh capital will stage the initial fixture of the European Championship, while semi-finals and final are scheduled for the iconic English venue

Nine venues across four host nations - England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland - will host the 24-team tournament

Games were initially scheduled for the northern territory, but Belfast's Casement Park was excluded due to financial constraints

The governing body's selection to host the first game in Cardiff was announced as the competition was publicly unveiled on midweek

"This marks the historic moment that '{The Red Wall' - our loyal followers - will enjoy a significant championship on home soil," stated national association chief executive the organization's leader

Unlike earlier European Championships, co-hosting nations must earn their place for the future competition, though they would be guaranteed to play their group games on local stadiums if they earn automatic entry

The participating countries will each be in distinct preliminary sections, with two positions also reserved for the top-placed of those sides who fail to qualify through normal competitive channels

Event Organization

Last eight matches will be staged at Cardiff's Principality Stadium, Dublin's Aviva Stadium, Scotland's national stadium and Wembley - which was used for penultimate and championship matches in the 1996 edition and for the rescheduled competition

Manchester's venue, where the Three Lions would begin their campaign if they secure immediate qualification, before switching to the national stadium, is one of five other venues being employed in England

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Villa Park, Liverpool's new arena and Newcastle's stadium are the others that will be utilized across the complete schedule in total

Tourism Boost

The UK government says it is committing significant funding to organize the championship but anticipates a return of £3.2bn due to employment opportunities, local development and tourist spending

"The European Championship will be the largest competition ever jointly hosted by the host countries and, as a passionate enthusiast, I know how much global tournaments like this matter," stated government head

With an average stadium capacity of just under 60,000, UEFA estimates that greater attendance than ever before will experience fixtures at a continental competition

Country Views

The Football Association's chief executive noted: "The scale of the championship will have a substantial advantage on local areas nationwide"

The equivalent official at the Football Association of Ireland, David Courell, stated: "The passionate followers are known for their enthusiasm and we await giving them, as well as the numerous visitors who will come to the country for the competition, with the type of euphoric experience that they will never forget"

The leader of the Scottish governing body, Ian Maxwell, commented: "There's frequent conversation about the power of football and the effect it can make on a regular basis across the nation, far beyond the limits of the stadium"

The qualifying draw will occur in the Northern Irish capital on December 6th, 2026
