Line of Duty Announced for Seventh Series on BBC
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th season, announced by the BBC.
A brand new six-part season created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, according to the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together next year."
The previous series concluded in 2021 with a finale that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only arrived recently.
New Challenges for AC-12
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue tasked to tackle misconduct within the police force.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to act as a sexual predator.
However, his case could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still active in the background, plot details suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had so many fans track the developments of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a seventh season."
He added: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston described being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Not only the program's popularity but the people I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is returning! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."
"Delighted with the news and anticipating those unexpected plot developments."
