Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Loss

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for questions to be raised about his future following another heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 matches, representing the club's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at Anfield.

“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got a lot of support from above,” Slot remarked.

“It would be nice to change things and secure a win of course but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's typical that doubts arise.”

He noted, “I accept my role. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with Club Management

Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot said:

“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”

He mentioned, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so we'll see.”

Familiar Failings and Squad Reaction

The manager lamented familiar weaknesses from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones remarked.

“It is unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He continued, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club all my life.”

“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a phase of this nature with performances like these.”

Jones concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And until it is removed, we will always battle.”

“We’re going to try to get this team return to the top, show everyone again what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”

“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
