The former Liverpool manager admits rejoining to coach Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who left Liverpool in 2024, indicated that a future comeback remains an option. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure which brought a European Cup triumph and the Premier League crown in 30 years, currently occupies roles as head of global soccer for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed the Premier League under Arne Slot, but many fans who adore the manager would welcome the possibility of his potential comeback. Speaking candidly, he told his interviewer: “I said I refuse to lead any other side within the country. Therefore in case it's my former club...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, which suggests I might decide down the line, I don’t know. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, it's not necessary. I'll simply watch how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding which situations must arise to draw him back to the dugout, he confessed he feels no immediate pull for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for interviews repeatedly each week or constant media duties weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed in that context, however, dining out with the team having a nice chat, I appreciate that. Success was frequent so there was often a very good mood around the place. Remaining with me is Van Dijk's laughter in my ear for example.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, praising him due to the changes that took the title in the previous season. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches across various tournaments post heavy investment, but he rubbished the suggestion that it might signal a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. [Hugo] Ekitike, incredible player. It’s a really good balanced team. Fans shouldn't fret regarding the Reds, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
He shared movingly regarding the passing of Jota, a 2020 acquisition while in charge, and its impact on Liverpool. The Portugal international lost his life in a vehicle collision alongside his brother recently.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? It’s not about the player himself, it’s the guy he was. It's hard to picture the squad absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. A devastating blow for the entire squad too. No one within the club would cite it for poor performances yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Dealing with that individually is not easy. Overwhelming.”
