The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.

It might not have been at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a prosperous future without fear.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, contributed by a local firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “6-7” – deriving from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.

A New Life

This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”

Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they marked the pig's pardon.
