The sports network Parts Ways with Mark Sanchez, Replaces Him with Former QB Brees
The network has terminated its association with game analyst Mark Sanchez amidst his criminal charges, multiple outlets confirmed on Friday.
"We can confirm that Mark Sanchez has ceased with the network," a Fox spokesperson stated. "We will offer no further comment currently."
Stepping into the analyst role will be an ex- NFL quarterback, Drew Brees, according to the information. He is expected to work alongside play-by-play voice Adam Amin and has a contract to call games through the 2026 season.
Details of the Incident Involving Sanchez
The 38-year-old Sanchez had been removed from duties since he was injured in a stabbing and subsequently arrested after an altercation in an alley in Indianapolis with a 69-year-old truck driver. He had traveled to commentate on the 5 October game between the Colts and Las Vegas Raiders but was hospitalized and substituted that week by Brady Quinn.
He is charged with a felony battery charge as well as at least three lesser charges. The felony charge carries a sentence of 1-6 years in prison, upon a guilty verdict, and he has pleaded not guilty in Marion County, Indiana.
Drew Brees' Career and Background
The 46-year-old Brees left the NFL following the 2020 campaign and worked during 2021 with the NBC network, acting as a game analyst for the Notre Dame football coverage and featured in a football program.
He has worked in the studio with Fox and ESPN and served as an commentator on Netflix’s international game last Christmas.
Brees led the Saints team to a Super Bowl victory in the 2009 NFL season and was a two-time NFL offensive standout. He ranks second behind Tom Brady in league history in yards thrown (80,358) and touchdown passes (571).
