Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... Currently.
Vince Gilligan did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”
With the first season of the acclaimed program coming to an end—and Season 2 officially in the works—Gilligan and his team opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.
About the Incredible Fan Response
One could easily to get distracted by the constant speculation and online debates surrounding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.
“It feels like an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's on purpose. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”
Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.
“We don't try to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by audience chatter.”
“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.
A Pressing Query: Will Vince Gilligan Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?
So if the writers are not listening by fan response, can we assume they have mapped out how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… sort of.
“We've developed some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “but we are always ready to abandon a good idea for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”
Alternatively, if plans fall through, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to serve as a last resort.
“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”
Then again, why not reference the legendary finales?
“I want Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.
